How to Use Strange Key in Destiny 2
Players who are after the Forerunner Exotic Sidearm will have to go through six different Quest Steps in order to unlock it. One of these steps will involve you getting the Strange Key.
The Strange Key is an Exotic Quest item that is required if you want to complete the Magnum Opus Exotic Quest and unlock the Forerunner.
To get the Strange Key, you will need to reach Reputation Rank 4 with Xur inside of Xur’s Treasure Hoard.
This can be done by completing Dares Daily Bounties, which you can pick up from Xur inside of his Treasure Hoard. These bounties will require you to run Dare of Eternity in order to complete them.
You can also complete Starhorse Bounties to get some additional reputation. Starhorse Bounties will be required for the Magnum Opus Quest as well, so it is a good idea to pick them up as soon as you begin the quest.
It shouldn’t take too many runs with the right bounties to get Xur to Reputation Rank 4. Once you do, visit Xur in Xur’s Treasure Hoard and claim your Strange Key.
Now that you have the Strange Key, what do you do with it? The Strange Key is used to unlock the cryopod that contains the Anomalous Object, the final Exotic Item needed to complete the Magnum Opus Exotic Quest.
The cryopod is located inside of the Dares of Eternity arena. After landing at Xur’s Treasure Hoard, turn to your right where you should a purple cloud of mist.
Stepping into this mist will transport you to the Dares of Eternity arena, though there will be no enemies spawning. You should have a waypoint guiding you to a rock formation.
Stand on top of the waypoint and align the rock with the rest of the structures in the background in order to recreate the Bungie logo. At the center of this logo will be a new waypoint showing you the entrance to a secret cave.
Follow the path through the cave to find the cryopod waiting for you. Use your Strange Key to open the cryopod and obtain the Anomolus Object.
