Best Server to Choose in Final Fantasy XIV
- Language – it’s much easier if you can communicate with others.
- Purpose – most servers have an unspoken goal in mind.
- Congestion – some servers are too congested and thus not open.
Most of the time in FFXIV, you won’t have much of a choice about which server you choose. You choose one from your country/continent that is open to new players/characters.
Disclaimer: the information below is based on word of mouth and stereotypes that may make it easier for new players to choose. All servers are amazing and deserve our admiration!
North America
North American servers previously hosted much of the Oceania and even European community. They still have the most Spanish speakers and the biggest RP community.
Aether
- Adamantoise – chill and active server with plenty to do.
- Cactuar – top Spanish-speaking server on Aether.
- Faerie – a friendly and active server that hosts a lot of parties/venues.
- Gilgamesh – intense server focused on hunts and other combat content.
- Jenova – safe and balanced server that is a good choice for new players.
- Midgardsormr – casual server.
- Sargatanas – active server with famous streamers.
- Siren – huge server that is accepting of others. Siren is known for being a crafting server.
Aether is the most popular and most congested Data Center in North America. You will even find people from all over the world calling it their home.
The best servers in Aether for new players are Faerie and Siren. They are both friendly and inviting, accepting players of all kinds.
Primal
- Behemoth – Brazilian Portuguese is common here.
- Excalibur – hardcore server that enjoys high-end content.
- Exodus – good server for both veterans and new players; everyone can find a group.
- Famfrit – chill server.
- Hyperion – funny server that doesn’t take life too seriously. Speaks primarily Spanish.
- Lamia – cozy and fun.
- Leviathan – hardcore server for intense gamers.
- Ultros – there’s a lot of division, which means everyone can find a like-minded group, but also…there’s division.
Lamia and Hyperion are the best servers on Primal. If you speak Spanish, Hyperion will feel like home. Otherwise, Lamia is a great chill server.
Crystal
- Balmung – largest NA server.
- Brynhildr – small but close-knit.
- Coeurl – expands outside of NA and loves visitors.
- Diabolos – serious server that is not for new players.
- Goblin – active server with a strong sense of community.
- Malboro – quiet and not friendly, but not hostile.
- Mateus – possible cliques reported.
- Zalera – casual and small.
Goblin and Zalera are the best bets for new players. Avoid Diabolos and Mateus unless you know someone from there.
Europe
For European players, it’s a good idea to look for servers that speak your language – literally. These servers have the biggest mix of languages.
Chaos
- Cerberus – quiet Russian server.
- Louisoix – casual, open to anyone.
- Moogle – active and French.
- Omega – active roleplay server that speaks most European languages.
- Phantom – too new to say.
- Ragnarok – primarily speaks Arabic, French, and Italian.
- Sagitarrius – too new to say.
- Spriggan – too new to say.
Omega and Ragnarok have a large mix of communities. But overall, Louisoix is the most casual and easy for new players to slide into.
Light
- Alpha – too new to say.
- Lich – right in the middle between casual and hardcore.
- Odin – Scandinavian server that is intense.
- Phoenix – mix of languages and goals.
- Raiden – too new to say.
- Shiva – German server.
- Twintania – too new to say.
- Zodiark – Italian and German.
Phoenix has the most diverse group in Light. But anywhere you go, you may find yourself confused by the diversity of languages and goals.
Japan
Japan has the least divided server base than any other – at least publicly. Mana is usually full, but with the separation of servers into Meteor, there’s been room elsewhere.

- Aegis
- Atomos
- Carbuncle
- Garuda
- Gungir
- Kujata
- Ramuh
- Tonberry
- Typhon
Gaia

The Oceania servers are quite new and have stolen most of the Kiwi/Australian players from other servers. Because of how new they are, the communities aren’t as set.
