To build a storage area in Minecraft, besides chests and barrels, you need a lot of other things like wood planks, lighting sources, foundation blocks, and, most importantly, decoration blocks.

Minecraft Storage Area Design Ideas
When it comes to building a storage area in Minecraft, there are a lot of different methods to build one. Whether you make it underground, inside your house, or even separate from your main base. Also, alternatively choosing between chests and barrels is a great idea to make your storage room more diverse.
1. Basic Basement Storage
Materials: Stripped Spruce Logs, Spruce Slabs, Spruce Stairs, Spruce Fences, Leaves, Polished Blackstone Bricks, Block of Raw Gold, Lanterns, and a lot of Chests and Barrels.
The first storage area design is quite simple! All you have to do is choose a medium area and put a lot of Chests there.
On the inner wall, you can install Barrels on the wall to save some space. Then you may want to expand the inner room with more chests to store all the things you need.
For this particular design, you can build it both underground and on the ground.
2. Compacted Storage Room
Materials: Dark Oak Logs, Stripped Spruce Logs, Spruce Slabs, Spruce Stairs, Spruce Trapdoors, Spruce Fences, Lanterns, Stones, Stone Bricks, Oak Slabs, Chests, Barrels, Flower Pots, Flowering Azalea, a Cake, Amethyst Bud, Candles, and a Stone Button.
Now you have a whole room just to store your items! With this compact design, you could have up to 50 chests and 15 barrels in a single room.
Besides the storage blocks, you can decorate the middle of the room with a small table and some witchcraft items like candles and amethyst.
If you need more containers to store items, consider replacing the floor with barrels or expanding the room furthermore!
3. Symmetrical Overgrown Storage Room
Materials: Stripped Spruce Logs, Spruce Trapdoors, Oak Trapdoors, Spruce Stairs, Spruce Slabs, Spruce Leaves, Stones, Andesites, Polished Andesites, Green Wool, Green Wool Carpets, Lanterns, Glowstones, and lots of Chests.
If you love spruce and live in the Taiga biome, this storage area design is definitely for you!
By stacking up the chests and separating them with the spruce column, you could put item frames to classify which chests contain which items. This makes the sorting process a lot easier than dumbing all items in one chest.
To make the room brighter and more natural, you should break some blocks on the ceiling and replace them with leaves. This way, hostile mobs won’t spawn in your storage room.
4. Ruined Temple Storage
Materials: Stone Bricks, Cracked Stone Bricks, Smooth Stone Slabs, Cobblestone Stairs, Stone Brick Stairs, Glowstones, Oak Trapdoors, an Enchanting Table, and lots of Chests.
This design is inspired by the Battle Towers mod, where you have to climb up to a few hundred-block-tall towers, defeat the boss, and loot chests with insanely good rewards.
But instead of a normal tower, this is a stone brick room that contains a lot of chests. Plus, to make it look more magical, placing an enchanting table right in the middle of the room is needed.
With enough lighting coming from the glow stones, you could build this storage room deep underground to keep your treasure away from the others!
5. Medieval Wine Cellar Storage
Materials: Stripped Spruce Logs, Spruce Stairs, Spruce Slabs, Spruce Trapdoors, Chests, Barrels, Glowstones, Chains, Lanterns, Stones, Stone Stairs, Stone Bricks, Stone Brick Walls, Spruce Fences, Campfires, Stonecutter, Grindstone, Armor Stands, and lots of decoration blocks.
This storage area is massive! Seriously, you could have up to 500 chests and barrels in this room and still have enough space for other decorations!
We can only showcase 2 walls, but you can repeat the same pattern and create a full room with this style. Besides a wall full of chests, it’s important to use decoration blocks to make the room more alive.
6. Futuristic Storage Room
Materials: Quartz Pillars, Blocks of Quartz, Quartz Stairs, Orange Terracotta, Glowstones, Sea Lanterns, Oak Trapdoors, End Rods, Iron Bars, White Stained Glasses, and a lot of Chests.
The last storage area design has a futuristic (or angelic) vibe because of the pure white blocks and lighting.
To create the reflective effect on the ground, you have to put one layer of smooth quartz underneath and cover them up with a layer of white stained glass.
And to bring the storage to a whole new level, we separate each section into 64 chests and place them sideways. This way, you can save half the space to stuff more chests.
