How to Get Tree Branch in Project Zomboid

Tree branches are a versatile and available resource in Project Zomboid.

They can be used to craft weapons and level up your skills, making them crucial material for survival in the game. Therefore, it’s vital to understand how to acquire them.

There are two ways to obtain tree branches in Project Zomboid:

  • Chopping trees down or cutting down bushes.
  • Receiving from foraging.

Let’s go through each option!

1. Get Tree Branch From Chopping Tree

After chopping down a tree, you’ll get tree branches and logs as a reward. The number of tree branches you receive is typically between 1-2 tree branches per tree.

To cut down trees, you need a weapon. Any weapon can be used to bring trees down. However, their efficiency is different. It’s advisable to equip an axe thanks to its incredible damage to trees.

Ensure you have the axe in your inventory, then right-click on it and select “Equip Primary”.

Next, locate a tree, which is commonly found in the forest, right-click on it, and select “Cut Down Tree”.

You can also hold right-click to enable your combat stance, then left-click when you stand near the tree to cut it down. This method is effective when collecting tree branches and the zombies are nearby, as you can immediately kill them.

You can cut down bushes with a knife, which will often give you a tree branch as well.

Once the tree branches drop to the ground, all you have to do is drag them into your inventory.

2. Get Tree Branch From Foraging

Besides being a vital skill for survival, foraging is an alternative way to collect tree branches.

To forage for tree branches, click on the magnifying glass on the left side of the screen, select “Enable Search Mode”, then walk around and check the area. If an eyeball appears over your head, that means there’s an item you can forage for nearby.

You can get a tree branch when a pop-up window appears over it with a tree branch icon on it.

Next, double-click on the tree branch icon to collect it. Additionally, you can right-click on the tree branch, select “Pick up Tree Branch”, then select “Put in Container (Inventory)”.

It’s not necessary to level up your foraging skill to pick up the tree branches, as you can immediately start the task at foraging skill levels 0 and 1.

To increase the chance of finding tree branches, consider choosing the Lumberjack or Carpenters professions, along with the Lucky trait. They offer 50%30%, and 10% increased rates of finding tree branches.

The location you choose to look for tree branches will determine how many you can get and how long it takes to find them.

We recommend searching for tree branches in the forest or deep forest for maximum efficiency, as you’ll have smaller chances of finding them in other areas, like roads and highways.
