Rust – How to Throw a Molotov Cocktail

You are currently viewing Rust – How to Throw a Molotov Cocktail

If you feel like destroying someone’s base in the Rust early game, you will need a couple of Molotov Cocktails. These bad boys will allow you to burn down their base, doors, and themselves as you try to get in and create maximum chaos.

However, if you haven’t used them before, you might be very confused when the Molotov suddenly drops from your hand right at your feet, burning you alive. This is normal if this is your first time.

Or you might try to get some cocktails up through a window, and for some reason, it explodes right in your face rather than inside your enemy’s base.

To throw a Molotov Cocktail properly in Rust, you will just have to press the left mouse button. If you are trying to get a Molotov through a window, try to crouch and throw it in the dead center of the window.

There are two buttons that you can press to throw a Molotov Cocktail in Rust:

  • Left mouse button
  • Right mouse button

If you just click them, your character will start the animation where they light the Molotov up and then throw it.

The left mouse button will throw the Molotov far away, while the right mouse button will drop the Molotov right at your feet.

If you press and hold one of the mouse buttons, you will be stuck in an aiming animation. When you release the button, your character will throw the Molotov.

You can change the throw type if you just change the button you are holding down before you throw the Molotov from your hand.

One of the biggest problems people have with Molotov Cocktails in Rust is that they cannot throw them through windows. The best way to fix this is by crouching and throwing right through the center of the window.

The animation of the thrown Molotov will make the bottle rotate while flying. In the first few seconds, the bottle will fly vertically, which is the best moment to get it through a window.

Once it starts rotating, it won’t have enough space through a Metal Vertical Embrasure, for example.
