How Wine Works
Wine is an Artisan Good in Stardew Valley that will triple the value of the fruit that you turned in the Keg.
With the help of a Keg, even a simple Blueberry worth 50 g can be worth 150 g if turned into Wine.
The name of the Wine will be based on the Fruit you use to make it.
Still, the image you will see in your inventory will be exactly the same, so it can be a bit confusing if you make more than one type of Wine.
Consuming Wine will lower your Speed by 1 for 30 seconds but it will recover 22 HP and 50 Energy at normal quality.
The amount of HP and Energy you recover from Wine is the same, no matter what type of Fruit you used to make it.
The main reason why players would want to make Wine in Stardew Valley is to sell it since it triples the value of the Fruit.
If you used an expensive Fruit, such as Starfruit, which is worth 750 g, you can get a Wine that is worth at least 2,250 g.
This is why Wine is probably the best way to make money in Stardew Valley.
How to Make Wine in Stardew Valley
To make Wine in Stardew Valley, you need to insert a Fruit inside a Keg and wait 7 days.
To unlock the recipe for the Keg and get one, you will need to reach level 8 Farming. Once you do, you will need x30 Wood, x1 Copper Bar, x1 Iron Bar, and x1 Oak Resin to craft one.
Generally, it would be a good idea to craft more than one Keg, considering the long fermentation process.
You can place the Keg anywhere you want on your farm. Most players prefer to fill up a Shed with them, to conserve tiles for crops on the farm.

Is It More Profitable to Use a Preserves Jar or Keg?
There are two things you can do with Fruits to increase their value in Stardew Valley:
- Turn them into Wine in the Keg
- Turn them into Jelly in the Preserves Jar
Placing Fruits into the Keg will get you Wine which is worth x3 times the base price of the item. Turning Fruits into Jelly in the Preserves Jar will increase the value of the item by x2 times + 50 g.
This means that, generally, Fruits are better suited as Wine, since you get an x3 bonus to the price, instead of x2.
However, if the value of the Fruit is 50 g or below, it would be a better choice to use the Preserves Jar, as you would gain much more.
The only Fruits that you should use with the Preserves Jar, instead of the Keg, to turn into Jelly, instead of Wine, in Stardew Valley are:
- Apricot
- Blackberry
- Blueberry
- Hot Pepper
- Salmonberry
How to Make Silver, Gold, and Iridium Quality Wine
Luckily, you can upgrade Wine to have Silver, Gold, or even Iridium quality in Stardew Valley, increasing the value by 25%, 50%, and respectively 100%.
Unfortunately, you cannot get higher quality Wine in Stardew Valley just by placing higher quality Fruits inside the Keg.
If you place an Iridium quality Fruit in a Keg, you will still get a Wine that is x3 times the base value of the Fruit, not x3 times the Iridium quality value.
To increase the quality of Wine and make it Silver, Gold, or Iridium quality in Stardew Valley, you will need to age the Wine.
Should You Make Wine from Iridium Quality Fruits?
Yes, you should make Wine from all Fruits that have a value over 200 g, since you will triple the amount of money you will get.
If you have an Iridium quality Fruit, that Fruit is only x2 times more expensive than the base value.
If you turn the Fruit into Wine, it will be x3 times more expensive than the base value, making the Wine-making process worth the time and effort.
How to Age Wine in Stardew Valley
To age Wine in Stardew Valley, you will need to place it inside a Cask. The Cask is a special item that you will unlock once you get the last upgrade for the Farmhouse.
There are three upgrades that you can get for the Farmhouse. The first one will add a kitchen and a bedroom, the second one will add a room for children, and the third one will add a cellar.
The cellar is the only place where you can deposit Casks, and it is the main reason why you can only unlock the Cask by upgrading the Farmhouse first.
To craft a Cask in Stardew Valley, you will need x20 Wood and x1 Hardwood.
Generally, you should craft 92 Casks to fill up the cellar. You will already have 33 Casks in the cellar when you get the final Farmhouse upgrade.
The quality of the Wine improves the longer you leave it inside the Cask. Here is exactly how long you need to age Wine in Stardew Valley in the Cask to get Silver, Gold, and Iridium quality:
- Silver Quality Wine (25% Price Increase) – 14 days
- Gold Quality Wine (50% Price Increase) – 28 days
- Iridium Quality Wine (100% Price Increase) – 56 days
The amount of days we have listed above is the total number of days you have to leave the Wine to age. This means that you will have to leave the Wine to age 2 seasons to get Iridium quality Wine.
