One of the coolest Coop animals you can get and raise in Stardew Valley has to be the Dinosaur. Who doesn’t want a prehistoric lizard in their backyard along with their Chickens?
Though Dinosaurs aren’t some of the most profitable animals out there, they look really interesting, and they bring a different kind of life to your Stardew Valley farm.

Since the Dinosaur produces eggs, you can easily get a farm full of them if you want to and have your own Jurassic Park next to the growing Summer crops.
To get Dinosaur Eggs in Stardew Valley, you will either have to dig up Artifact Spots in the Mountains or defeat Pepper Rex enemies in the Skull Cavern.

How to Get a Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley
Before you go looking for a Dinosaur Egg, make sure that you don’t give it to the Museum and that you actually place it into an Incubator. This will give you a Dinosaur that will start producing Dinosaur Eggs every 7 days.
There are five ways to get your first ever Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley, and each one of them is very different:
- Dig Artifact Spots in the Mountains.
- Defeat Pepper Rex dinosaurs in the Skull Cavern’s Prehistoric Floors.
- Forage in the Skull Cavern’s Prehistoric Floors.
- Fishing Treasure Chest.
- Win the Crane Game at the Movie Theater.
Digging Artifact Spots
Have you ever wondered what all of those worms were when you looked at the ground in Stardew Valley? Well, those are called Artifact Spots, and you can hit them with a Hoe to receive special rewards.
If you’ve ever been to the Museum, then you know you need a lot of Artifacts to fill that place up. Artifact Spots are the best way to get everything you need, even though they can also spawn random items that aren’t as useful.
Artifact Spots look like there are three worms or twigs that keep moving on a tile. If you hit that exact tile with the Hoe, you will get some special items, one of them being the Dinosaur Egg.
The only location on the map where you can get the Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley by digging up Artifact Spots is the Mountains. This includes the whole area, even the Quarry.
Find the Prehistoric Floors in the Skull Cavern
The best way to get the Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley is to find a Prehistoric Floor inside the Skull Cavern. These floors will have a lot of dinosaurs on them that will attack you and will have a 10% chance of dropping a Dinosaur Egg.
There is also a chance you will just find a Dinosaur Egg just standing there, waiting to be picked up, on these Prehistoric Floors. This just means that if you manage to get on one of these floors, you are almost 100% assured of getting a Dinosaur Egg.
The Skull Cavern is a special, higher-level cave that you can explore once you reach the Desert using the Bus. This is an endless cave, as opposed to the Mines, and will spawn better and better loot the further you get down.
The Prehistoric Floors are special levels inside the Skull Cavern that only have dinosaurs inside of them and look very different from the other floors. These have a 2% chance of spawning every floor under the 7th one.
So, as long as you have the necessary tools to face the Skull Cavern, you can easily get a Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley. The best strategy would be to use a lot of Staircases to quickly get down through the Skull Cavern.
You can craft these Staircases after reaching level 2 Mining for 99 Stone. Just use a lot of them to quickly get through the floors without fighting and stop when you reach the floor full of dinosaurs that looks different.
Fishing Treasure Chests
Fishing is one of the hardest skills to improve in Stardew Valley due to its horrible minigame. However, if you are one of those chosen people that are good at Fishing, you can get your Dinosaur Egg this way.
All you need to do is reach level 2 Fishing and catch an Artifact. Once you manage to catch your first random Artifact inside a Treasure Chest while Fishing, you will then get a slim chance to also catch a Dinosaur Egg in one of those Treasure Chests.
You will have around a 1% chance of getting the Dinosaur Egg from a Fishing Treasure Chest in Stardew Valley once you meet those requirements.
This isn’t the best way to do this, but if you also wanted to fish for other reasons, it is good to know that you can also get your Dinosaur Egg this way.
Movie Theater Crane Game
The last possible way you can get a Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley, if you don’t already own a Dinosaur, is to win the Crane Game at the Movie Theater.
Since the Movie Theater only appears after you manage to finish all of the Community Center Bundles, this is one of the latest game solutions for this problem.
The first time you will enter the Movie Theater, there will be someone using the Crane Machine, stopping you from using it. However, after watching a movie, there will only be a 25% chance that someone will be using it when you come inside the Theater.
There are a lot of possible prizes that you can get from the Crane Game in the Movie Theater, and many of them only appear if the season is right. However, you can get the Dinosaur Egg no matter the season.
