What Does Promoting and Changing Class Do? Explained
Promoting classes is an important thing to consider during your Fire Emblem Engage playthrough, as doing so will unlock better stats and abilities for your units, allowing them to hone in on their skills.
Alternatively, if there’s a unit you enjoy, but you find you aren’t benefiting from playing them in their default class, you can also switch them over to an entirely new class to give them access to the proper stats, weapons, and abilities you’ll need to play them in the style you wish.
To promote or change a unit’s class, they will need to have reached a level of 10 or higher. You will also need to have a Master Seal for each unit that you wish to promote or a Second Seal for each unit that you want to change classes.
Master Seals and Second Seals can be most easily obtained from the Item Shop in Somniel; however, the stock for each may vary depending on which chapter of the game you have reached. Master Seals and Second Seals are both priced at 2,500 gold each, so keep that in mind when determining your budget for promoting your units.
How To Promote Class in Fire Emblem Engage
To promote the class of your unit in Fire Emblem Engage, you will need to open the menu and select a unit of level 10 and above. Once you have chosen a unit, a secondary menu will open. From here, select the Class Change option.
The Class Change menu will provide you with a list of all classes your unit is capable of being promoted or changed into, with classes that you currently meet the requirements for showing up at the top of the list.
This means that if you’re looking to promote class, the next-tier class will be at the top of the list, complete with a rundown of the stat and ability gains and bonuses provided upon change.
For example, the Class Change menu here gives the opportunity for Alcryst to be promoted from his base class of Lord to the Advanced Class of Tireur d’elite. This boosts all of his stats and raises him from a B-Class to an S-Class unit, providing a huge improvement at the cost of just one Master Seal.
When viewing these stats side by side, it becomes more obvious why it is crucial to consider promoting at least some of your units during your playthrough.
To promote class, select the option you wish to promote your unit into and confirm to make this decision final.
After doing so, a cutscene will play that shows the unit in mind receiving a boost in power and a change of outfit to indicate their new class.
Once the small upgrade scene is complete, you will also be able to view a snippet of dialogue from the promoted unit and a summary of their new and improved stats.
With every promotion, your unit will be brought back to level one, as this is technically a new class, so they must advance from the beginning once more. However, you should have no problems grinding levels back up, especially if you’ve already completed a good chunk of the game and are into higher-leveled combats.
How To Change Class in Fire Emblem Engage
To change your units’ Base Class to something new in Fire Emblem Engage, you will need to open the menu and select a unit of level 10 and above. Once you have chosen a unit, a secondary menu will open. From here, select the Class Change option.
The Class Change menu will provide you with a list of all classes your unit is capable of being promoted or changed into, with classes that you currently meet the requirements for showing up at the top of the list.
Your unit will need weapon proficiency to be able to change to some classes. If you are lacking proficiencies, these can be gained by inheriting them through Emblems.
When viewing available options for class changes, you’ll be able to see a complete rundown of the stats the unit in question will gain or lose upon changing.
For example, the class change menu here allows Amber to change Base class from Lance Cavalier to Lance Fighter or Lance Armor at the cost of one Second Seal. Additionally, the classes such as Sword Fighter, Swordmaster and Hero could be unlocked if Amber inherits the required weapon proficiencies.
To change class, simply select the Base Class you wish you change your unit into from the menu, and confirm your selection. Upon confirming your selection, a brief cutscene will play to show the unit transferring their skills, complete with a brand new outfit to indicate their new class.
Once the small upgrade scene is complete, you will also be able to view a snippet of dialogue from the promoted unit and a summary of their new and improved stats.
With every class change, your unit will be brought back to level one and must advance from the beginning once more. However, you should have no problems grinding levels back up, especially if you’ve already completed a good chunk of the game and are into higher-leveled combats.
