How Fruit Trees Work in Stardew Valley

Fruit Trees are special trees that don’t randomly grow in your backyard in Stardew Valley, which you have to purchase usually from Pierre. The saplings for most Fruit Trees are usually relatively expensive.

However, the tree grows without you having to water it, and it will bring you one fruit every day as long as it is in season. The season doesn’t matter if you plant your Fruit Trees inside the Greenhouse or on Ginger Island.

A Fruit Tree takes 28 days to grow, and it will never die, as most crops do when the season changes. Fruit Trees take up a 3×3 wide space, which means you have to make a lot of space for them if you want to stick them outside.

You will also need that space the moment you want to plant the sapling. Also, you don’t need to till the land with your Hoe before planting a sapling.

The quality of the fruit that the tree brings you will be decided by the age of the tree. So, here is how old a Fruit Tree has to be since reaching maturity to produce iridium quality fruits in Stardew Valley:

  • 1 year – Silver quality fruits
  • 2 years – Gold quality fruits
  • 3 years – Iridium quality fruits

All Types of Fruit Trees

There are 8 types of Fruit Trees in Stardew Valley and you can harvest a different fruit from all of them.

If you wanted to be a true completionist, you could actually fit all of them inside the Greenhouse and have all the types of fruits in the game at all times.

Still, not all Fruit Trees are born equal.

Here are all the Fruit Tree types in Stardew Valley, in alphabetical order, along with the season they bring you harvestable fruits, their sapling purchase price, and fruit sell price:

The Best Fruit Trees to Grow in Stardew Valley

Just by looking at the value of most of the fruits in Stardew Valley, you can easily tell that the best Fruit Trees to grow are the Peach and Pomegranate Trees.

Both of them have the exact same price for sapling at Pierre’s and for the fruit itself. Since they are also good for different seasons, if you want to keep them outside, you should have them both.

If you really want to keep your Fruit Trees outside, you can get fruit from the Cherry Tree in the Spring, from the Peach Tree in the Summer, and from the Pomegranate Tree in the Fall.

Still, the best idea would be to fill your Greenhouse 9 Peach Trees and 9 Pomegranate Trees. This way, you make the most amount of money from them while also leaving space for normal crops, which will make you the real gold.

Both of them can also be used as gifts for some of the friendly villagers of Pelican Town. The Peach is a loved gift for Robin, the town’s carpenter, and the Pomegranate is loved by Elliot, one of the male romanceable characters.

You might wonder why we don’t consider the Banana Tree the best one, considering it is the most profitable. Well, to actually use the Banana Tree, you have to reach Ginger Island and unlock the Island Trader.

Since this can only be done after reaching the Winter of Year 1, there is no way we can recommend filling up your Greenhouse with a Fruit Tree you can’t actually get.

The Best Fruit Trees to Grow in the Endgame

If you got to Ginger Island and managed to unlock the Island Trader, then the best Fruit Tree to grow in Stardew Valley is the Banana Tree.

Since you’ve already discovered the region in the game where there are no seasons, you can grow Banana Trees everywhere here and get 150 g per Banana every day.

Still, it might be better to use all that land to plant crops that make a lot more than that, but Banana Trees can be incredibly profitable on Ginger Island for players that don’t want to waste time watering crops every day or setting up complex sprinkler irrigation systems.

Considering you will get Bananas now for the rest of the game, you can make a disgusting profit just from turning them into Wine.

Ignoring the fact that you will occasionally have to come to place the Bananas into Kegs, the whole process will be extremely simple and automatic.
