Stardew Valley has a lot of interesting hidden areas that you can either only discover if you read everything that appears on the screen or if you use a guide online.
The Secret Woods is a special location where most players will usually want to get inside but will have no idea how to do it. The entrance to this mesmerizing location is blocked off, and it seems no Axe can help you get inside.

Luckily, there are two easy ways to get inside the Secret Woods, and you don’t even need to get far in the game to use one of them. It mostly depends if you consider using exploitative mechanics as cheating or not.
To get inside the Secret Woods in Stardew Valley, you will need to head over north of the Wizard’s Tower and destroy the large log blocking the way with a Steel Axe. Any Axe that is at least steel-level is good enough. You can also use a cheat with a chair to jump over the log if you really want to get inside.

Where are the Secret Woods in Stardew Valley?
The exact location where you can find the Secret Woods in Stardew Valley is in the Cindersap Forest, south of your farm. In this area, you can see on the map the Wizard’s Tower.
The blocked entrance into the Secret Woods is north of the Wizard’s Tower, northwest of the pond.
How to Get to the Secret Woods in Stardew Valley
There are two ways players can get inside the Secret Woods in Stardew Valley:
- Destroy the log with a Steel Axe
- Jump over the log with a chair
Using an Axe to Gain Access to the Secret Woods
To get the Steel Axe, you will only first need to get the Copper Axe. You can do this from the Blacksmith using 5 Copper Bars and 2k g.
Once you finally have your hands on the Copper Axe, you will now have to get 5 Iron Bars and 5k g to upgrade it to the Steel Axe. Since you will need a lot of Iron Bars, your best bet is to go inside the Mines to reach at least floor 41 or buy the necessary Iron Ores from the Blacksmith.
Upgrade the Axe and turn it into a Steel Axe, and you will finally be able to destroy the large log in Stardew Valley blocking the way into the Secret Woods.
Chair Hopping Cheat
There is a way to get inside the Secret Woods in Stardew Valley without actually getting the Steel Axe. All you will need is a chair, which you can pick up from your house.
The way this works is that you can place the chair on the other side of the log. You will need to make the chair face you, which you can do by right-clicking while having the chair equipped. You can see the exact way you have to place the chair in the image above.
Once the chair is down, just click it to jump on it. If you get off of it, you will now be on the other side of the log, allowing you access inside the Secret Woods.
When you want to get out, you just have to pick up the chair and place it on the other side, right where our character is standing in the image above.
You can also use a bench to get inside the forest, but there is no way to use it to get out.
What to Do in the Secret Woods in Stardew Valley
You might wonder why you would need to get inside the Secret Woods if you don’t have a Steel Axe. Well, there are quite a lot of things you can do in the Secret Woods in the early game that can help you out in the future:
- Foraging
- Fishing
- Getting Hardwood
- Getting a Stardrop
Foraging might be one of the best things you can do in the Secret Woods, as the location is full of good things that you can pick up.
The Secret Woods is also a great location to do some Fishing, as it spawns the same three types of fish, no matter the season:
- Carp
- Woodskip
- Catfish
Ignoring the Carp, the Woodskip and Catfish are really good fish to catch, and the Secret Woods is the best location to get them.
The Secret Woods also have 6 large stumps that respawn every day that you can loot using a Copper Axe for Hardwood. This is why this area is the best Hardwood farming place in the game.
The last amazing thing that you can do here in the early game, if you are very lucky, is to give the Old Master Cannoli statue a Sweet Gem Berry.
If you somehow manage to get Sweet Gem Berry, giving it to the Old Master Cannoli statue will reward you with a Stardrop.
Stardrops are incredibly rare items that increase your maximum Energy by 34. There are only 7 Stardrops in all of Stardew Valley, and you will need all of them for the Perfection ending.
