Most game modes and activities in Destiny 2 allow you to queue either solo, with a Fireteam of up to 3 players, or with a Fireteam of up to 6 players.

How Many Players Can You Be in Each Mode in Destiny 2?
There are a lot of different game modes and activities in Destiny 2. While Destiny 2 is technically an MMO, the player limit for activities is actually quite small in most cases.
Let us start by first answering how many players can you be in a group. A full Fireteam in Destiny 2 can hold 6 players, though not every activity allows you to queue with a full Fireteam.
Many activities and game modes in Destiny 2 require a smaller Fireteam, while some will only let you progress alone.
Next, Let us do a quick breakdown of how many players are allowed in a Fireteam for every game mode.
PvP Game Modes Player Limit
For PvP, there aren’t that many game modes to begin with.
Luckily, there is still a good variety of player limits between the different game modes.
- Control, Crucible Labs, Iron Banner, and all of the Party Variants are all 6v6 game modes that allow you to queue with a full Fireteam of up to 6 players.
- Competitive and Trials of Osiris are both 3v3 game modes that allow you to queue with up to 3 players.
- Rumble is a free-for-all game mode that you can only queue into alone.
- Private Match is the only PvP game mode that will let you enter with more than 6 players. You can have up to 12 players in your lobby for a 6v6 match with custom rules.
- Gambit is a 4v4 game mode that you can queue with up to 4 players. You can not have a full Fireteam of 6 in a game of Gambit.
Almost every Crucible game mode will fill out your team during matchmaking, so don’t worry about queueing up alone or with a partially full Fireteam.
PvE Activities Player Limit
The majority of PvE activities will revolve around smaller Fireteams of 3 players, while most of the end-game activities, such as Raids, will require a full Fireteam.
- Vanguard Ops, Nightfalls, and Grandmaster Nightfalls all allow you to queue with up to 3 players.
- Every Raid in Destiny 2 will allow you to enter with a full Fireteam of 6 players. You can start the Raid with less than 6 players, though it is highly recommended to attempt any Raid with a full Fire team.
- Every Dungeon in Destiny 2 is a 3 player activity. Again, you can enter a Dungeon solo or with two players, though you will want a third to make things easier on yourself.
- Every Exotic Mission in Destiny 2 will allow you to enter the activity with 3 players. While sometimes challenging, these missions can be completed solo if you take your time.
- Every Campaign mission in Destiny 2 is made to support up to 3 players. Again, you can complete all of the campaign missions alone, but it is much easier with a team of 3.
- Seasonal Activities, such as Alters of Summoning or Savathun’s Spire, allow up to 3 players to queue together. If you queue alone or with one friend, you will be matched with other players to fill out the team.
- Legendary Lost Sectors will allow up to 3 players to enter, however, you will only get the Exotic rewards if you complete the Lost Sector alone. Learn more about Legendary Lost Sectors here.
- You can have a Fireteam of up to 3 players while freely exploring Destinations. This means Public Events, Lost Sectors, and Patrols all have a cap of 3 players.
- Dares of Eternity is a 6 player activity. You can either queue with a full Fireteam or have it matchmaker other Guardians for you.
- The Tower and the H.E.L.M. are the only two Destinations that you can enter with a full Fireteam of 6 players.
Aside from Dungeons and Raids, many PvE activities are matchmade.
You can queue into Vanguard Ops alone, and you will more often than not be put into a Fireteam with other players.
