Stardew Valley – How to Get Hay

You are currently viewing Stardew Valley – How to Get Hay

Animals are really fun to take care of in Stardew Valley. You have to check in on them every day, give them a little pat, and then feed them. Doing this every single day will keep your farm animals happy and get you a lot of profitable rewards.

Unfortunately, feeding animals isn’t exactly simple, as you need to get a lot of Hay for them. Hay doesn’t just randomly spawn all over the place, so you will have to do some harvesting to get what you want.

How to Get Hay in Stardew Valley

Before we go into the ways you can get Hay, you need to make sure that you have a Silo on the Farm.

If you haven’t built a Silo yet at Robin’s Carpenter Shop, then you won’t be able to deposit the Hay. If you can’t deposit Hay, then doing the things that can help you collect Hay won’t work.

Here are the two methods you can use to get Hay in Stardew Valley:

  • Cut grass and Wheat using a Scythe
  • Buy it from Marnie’s Ranch

Cutting Grass

Cutting grass is the most common way to get Hay in Stardew Valley, as it often grows on your farm, and you just have to swipe your Scythe left and right to get rid of it.

When you cut grass, Hay gets automatically stored inside the Silos, so you won’t actually get anything in your inventory.

If you cut grass and you don’t have a Silo on your Farm, you won’t get any Hay from the action. This is why you need a Silo early on, as you could be missing out on a lot of food for your animals.

You can also grow Wheat if you want Hay, as there is a 40% chance that you will get Hay each time you harvest it.

This is a relatively reliable way to get Hay for your animals if you don’t want to use money, as you know that you will actually have something to cut down, unlike grass.

Buying It

Purchasing Hay might be the best way to get it in Stardew Valley, as it is very cheap, and you can always make more money. The time and Energy you spend cutting down grass and growing Wheat to harvest it can be a bit too much.

On the other hand, there are a lot of things that you can do with that time that will make you millions of g’s.

This is why purchasing Hay might be the way to go since it is much more efficient time-wise.

Still, if you want to truly roleplay the farmer experience, then cutting grass and growing Wheat could be the way to go.
