The Fiddlehead Fern is one of the more unique items in Stardew Valley, as you won’t really have a chance to find it if you don’t know where to look for it.

Unfortunately, you will need to find and get this vegetable if you wish to complete the Chef’s Bundle in the Community Center and get closer to repairing this very important structure.
To get the Fiddlehead Fern in Stardew Valley, all you need to do is head into the Secret Woods west of Cindersap Forest during the Summer and pick it up from the ground.

How to Get Fiddlehead Fern in Stardew Valley
The Fiddlehead Fern is a forageable item in Stardew Valley that you can only find and pick up to get. There is no way to grow it, even though it is a vegetable.
There are 4 places in Stardew Valley where you can forage and get the Fiddlehead Fern:
- Secret Woods
- Prehistoric Floors in the Skull Cavern
- Ginger Island
- Floors 41 to 69 in the Mines while the Shrine of Challenge is toggled
Secret Woods
The best place to get the Fiddlehead Fern in the early game of Stardew Valley is the Secret Woods.
There are quite a few ways to get inside this area right from day 1 and you can find this item starting the moment the season turns to Summer.
The Secret Woods is a location situated in the northwestern corner of Cindersap Forest (the region south of the Farm) which you can access by destroying the Large Log with a Steel Axe or by using the chair cheat.
During the Summer, there is a 90% chance every day that a forageable item will spawn there. If a forageable spawns, there will be a 78% chance that the item is a Fiddlehead Fern.
This means there is a chance of around 70% that you will find a Fiddlehead Fern in the Secret Woods every day during the Summer in Stardew Valley.
This is why this is the best and most reliable way to find the Fiddlehead Fern in the game. However, you will always be stuck finding it during the Summer this way. What if you need it during the Winter or Fall?
Well, luckily, there are a few other ways to get it.
Prehistoric Floors
The Skull Cavern is an evolved version of the Mines where all the enemies are extremely powerful and there is no elevator to go back to previous floors.
There is no final level, as you had in the Mines, and you can go down as many floors as you want until the day ends.
This dungeon can be found in the Calico Desert, which you can unlock once you fix the bus, in the upper left corner of the region.
Once you reach floor 6 of the Skull Cavern, there is a 2% chance that the next level you go down to will be a Prehistoric Floor.
These floors are different from the Egyptian-looking levels of the Skull Cavern, since they have Dinosaurs and look mostly like a normal cavern.
On these floors, you don’t have any nodes to destroy for Mining resources and you are surrounded by enemy Dinosaurs. However, if you look around, you can also find and get the Fiddlehead Fern on the Prehistoric Floors in Stardew Valley.
Since there is a very low chance that you will find these hidden floors in the Skull Cavern, this is not our recommended way to get the Fiddlehead Fern in Stardew Valley.
Ginger Island
If you’ve unlocked and reached Ginger Island in Stardew Valley, then you have discovered the best place to get the Fiddlehead Fern in the game.
The Fiddlehead Fern will spawn in the jungle on Ginger Island where you can find Leo. It is the small region to the northeast of the beach where you land when you first get here.
If you look around this little jungle region, you will notice that there are a lot of Fiddlehead Ferns here.
They also spawn almost every day there and they aren’t limited by season, as they were in the Secret Woods.
There are no seasons on Ginger Island, so you can just run over to Leo’s house every couple of days to find if new Fiddlehead Ferns have spawned there.
This is the best way to find and get the Fiddlehead Fern in Stardew Valley, but by this point in the game, you have finished the Bundle that needed it and your only other use of the item is to sell it.
Shrine of Challenge
Players can unlock the Shrine of Challenge after completing the Danger In The Deep quest in Qi’s Walnut Room on Ginger Island.
This Shrine appears on level 120 of the Mines and you can toggle it to make the enemies in the Mines more powerful.
This will also make the mining nodes that you get better and will give you new forageables throughout the place. If you go between levels 41 to 69, you can now find Fiddlehead Ferns.
However, considering that you can easily get them on Ginger Island at this point, this method is a bit overkill and unnecessary.
Can You Buy the Fiddlehead Fern?
The only trader in Stardew Valley that sells you the Fiddlehead Fern is the Traveling Merchant, for a random number of gold ranging from 270 to 1,000.
However, her stock is randomized, and there is no way to make sure that she has what you need when you need it.
How to Get the Fiddlehead Fern with Cheats – Fiddlehead Fern ID
If you don’t want to waste time searching for the Fiddlehead Fern in Stardew Valley and you just want it right now, you can add the ID of the item to your name or the name of an animal you purchase.
When someone says the name, the item will spawn in your inventory.
The item ID for the Fiddlehead Fern in Stardew Valley is 259.
So, if you want to get the item without actually finding it, purchase an animal from Marnie’s Ranch and name it [259]. The moment you buy the animal, you will get the item in your inventory.
